Outlook Not Updating Inbox

If the Outlook application is not updating the Inbox folder, then carry out the simple troubleshooting methods given below to fix it.

Method 1: Configure the account settings correctly

Initially, check whether your account settings are configured correctly. To check them, follow the instructions provided below.

  • Step 1:Launch the Outlook application.
  • Step 2:Go to the File menu.
  • Step 3: Select the Account Settings option followed by Account Settings. Choose the account with which you’re encountering an issue.
  • Step 4:Click on the Change button followed by Test account settings. If you find that your account settings are misconfigured, reconfigure them correctly, and then refresh the Inbox folder.

Method 2: Remove the filters

If the Outlook application is not updating the Inbox folder again, then check whether you have applied any filters to the folders. Remove the Inbox folder filters, if applied, by following the instructions given below.

  • step 1: Open the Inbox folder of the Outlook application.
  • step 2: Now, click the View tab followed by the Reset Views option.
  • An alternative way to remove the filter from the Inbox folder:

  • step 3: Close the Outlook application if it is opened.
  • step 4: Now, open the Run dialog box.
  • step 5: In the given field, type the following command:
  • Outlook /cleanview and run it.
  • step 6: Now, the filters that are applied to Outlook’s Inbox folder will be removed.

Method 3: Launch the Outlook application in Safe mode

If the “Outlook not updating Inbox” issue remains unresolved, launch the Outlook application in Safe mode, and then check whether the Inbox folder is able to receive new emails.

  • step 1: Open the Run application.
  • step 2: Type the Outlook /safe command and tap Enter.
  • step 3: Now, the Outlook application will open in Safe mode.
  • step 4: Go to the Outlook application’s File menu.
  • step 5: Select Options > Add-ins > Go > Com-in Add.
  • step 6: Deselect all the add-ins selected and click OK.

Now, open the Inbox folder and check whether the issue is resolved. If not, create a new Outlook account or profile and use it to resolve this issue.
